Weekly Boiler Checks Checklist
A weekly boiler maintenance checklist — covering combustion analysis, safety valve checks, water treatment review, and deeper inspections.

Combustion
- Flue gas analysis: Measure O₂, CO, and flue gas temperature at high, medium, and low fire. Compare to baseline.
- Adjust burner if needed: If O₂ is outside 2–4% (gas) or 4–6% (oil), adjust the air-fuel ratio.
- Check burner operation: Verify smooth modulation from low to high fire without flame instability.
Safety Devices
- Test all safety interlocks: Test low-water, high-pressure, low-gas-pressure, high-gas-pressure, and flame failure interlocks. Record results.
- Safety valve leak check: Listen for steam leakage at the safety valve — if leaking, plan for repair or replacement.
Water Treatment Review
- Review daily logs: Review the week's water treatment logs for trends — is TDS stable? Is hardness consistently zero?
- Check chemical consumption: Verify chemical usage is within expected range. A sudden change indicates a problem.
- Inspect softener: Check the water softener — verify regeneration is occurring and resin is in good condition.
Mechanical
- Lubricate motors and fans: Check and grease bearings on the forced draft fan, induced draft fan, and feedwater pump per the lubrication schedule.
- Check couplings: Inspect pump couplings for wear and alignment.
- Inspect insulation: Walk the boiler and steam lines — check for damaged insulation and bare hot surfaces.
How CHI can help
Ask CHI about weekly boiler checks and to help interpret combustion analysis results. The CHI assistant can help you create custom checklists for your specific equipment, explain each inspection point, and flag items that need attention based on your equipment's condition.
