Condensate Flash Steam Calculator

Calculate how much flash steam is generated when high-pressure condensate drops to a lower pressure — essential for flash vessel sizing and energy recovery.

Inputs

Condensate at this pressure, hf = 781 kJ/kg.

Flash vessel/return pressure, hfg = 2257 kJ/kg.

How It Works

x = (hf_high − hf_low) / hfg_low

When high-pressure condensate drops to a lower pressure, its enthalpy (hf_high) exceeds the liquid enthalpy at the low pressure (hf_low). The surplus energy vaporises part of the condensate — the fraction that flashes equals the surplus divided by the latent heat at the low pressure.
